(About)
A gardener for people, plants and ecosystems, I set up Fresh Roots at the start of 2025 to help people turn their gardens into spaces where nature and humans can thrive together.
From a young age, I grew up with my hands in the soil and have developed my horticultural skills by watching and learning from those around me. In recent years, the effects of climate change on biodiversity have become more evident – Fresh Roots has been my opportunity to help nurture safe havens for nature in gardens across Devon. I work under principles of sustainability, permaculture and chemical-free gardening. I undertake anything from basic maintenance and care, to more complex garden management, planting and design. To date, I’ve worked in over 100 gardens across Devon and always look forward to meeting new clients.
(My ethos)
It's important to me to work with the natural world, not against it. Here are my core values and principles that guide my work.
01
Sustainability
As humans, we should always try to live in harmony with the natural world around us. I work with our delicate ecosystems, rather than against them, by allowing our non-human friends to help gardens flourish.
02
Kindness
Our world moves so fast these days, a little kindness can go a long way. Whether looking kindly upon some tired plants which need revitalising or offering a friendly smile to my clients, kindness sits at the heart of my work.
03
Practical solutions
As an experienced gardener, I’m here to offer you practical and cost-effective solutions for your outdoor spaces. Whether a small courtyard, a balcony, a new-build garden, a well-established ecosystem or a converted farm, I can offer practical solutions and designs to fit any space.
04
Community-focussed
We sit as much within nature’s ecosystems as the bees that buzz around our lavender in the summer. Community is the heart of a functioning ecosystem and, as such, I always work collaboratively with clients while offering knowledge, advice and experience from across the Fresh Roots community.
05
Chemical-free
In order to be sustainable, kind, practical and community-focussed, my first step has always been to work without chemicals. This way, I put only goodness into the ground.
